Would you like to join a small but friendly firm that specialises in the collection of rent and other property-related disputes across the UK. The firm, through achieving excellent outcomes and client-to-client introductions, has developed a prized and growing client base of key corporate clients (the largest being capitalised at £9bn and
having several thousand properties under management), significant landed estates, and local authorities.
This is an opportunity for an experienced, ambitious and business-minded solicitor, with a minimum of 2 years’ PQE in Property or Commercial Litigation, to act for clients in a range of complex, defended or high value claims, and insolvency procedures. Opponents vary from small firms to well-regarded city practices and the mix of tenants dealt with provides an added layer of interest. You will be expected to be familiar with the Civil Procedure Rules and court processes, including the enforcement of court judgments.
- In addition to debt related claims there is an opportunity to engage in other property related or commercial disputes for our clients including:
- Forfeiture/relief from forfeiture;
- Dilapidations;
- Claims for possession of land against trespassers/persons unknown in occupation of land;
- Other breaches of leases and tenancy agreements;
- Professional negligence claims against surveyors, valuers and solicitors;
- Contract disputes;
- A range of other property disputes including rights of way, drainage, boundaries
Your role will include:
- Running your own caseload;
- Drafting and serving formal demands, contractual and statutory notices;
- Assisting in drafting pleadings and supporting witness statements in support of court applications;
- Preparing statements of costs, cost budgets and disclosure lists;
- Preparing bundles for hearings and trials (Paralegal support is available to help with this);
- instructing Counsel and attending Court to support Counsel where appropriate, or conducting your own advocacy;
- Liaising with the courts in relation to hearings and liaising with Counsel and Counsel’s clerk when required;
- A desire to be involved in business development activities, including preparing literature and attendance at events;
- Disclosure of documents, incl. electronic disclosure
- Familiarity with CE filing
