Overall Purpose of the Role
The role holder will be responsible for a caseload of military cases against the Ministry of Defence and should be able to manage these with confidence and knowledge in line with exceptional customer service standards. The role holder will also handle some industrial disease cases as required.

Job Context
The role of Legal Advisor L4 requires an excellent understanding of all aspects of litigation in personal injury, specifically military claims, with additional knowledge of industrial disease claims. The ideal candidate must be capable of managing a high workload while demonstrating a solid understanding of litigation, the Civil Procedure Rules, and the regulations and legislation concerning military claims.

The role holder will take individual responsibility for a caseload of military claims, both litigated and pre-litigated, alongside responsibility for industrial disease claims where appropriate. The caseload will consist of complex and/or high-value military claims and some industrial disease claims.

Principal Accountabilities

• Demonstrate a solid understanding of the technical issues involved in dealing with a litigated case

• Possess an excellent understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules

• Maintain excellent working knowledge of Military Claims, Noise-Induced Hearing Loss, Short Tail Industrial Disease, Long Tail Industrial Disease, and relevant case law

• Take individual responsibility while contributing effectively within a team environment

• Demonstrate commercial awareness and a proactive approach to all aspects of work

• Exhibit strong decision-making skills

• Achieve financial targets on a monthly and annual basis, contributing to team profitability

• Provide excellent client awareness and client care

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Qualified Solicitor with 5 years’ PQE

• Experience in handling complex and high-value claims against the Ministry of Defence, fast-track/multi-track litigated cases, and industrial disease claims

• Excellent working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules

• Strong drafting capabilities for court documents

• Excellent advocacy and fact-finding skills

• Strong telephone manner and communication skills

• Understanding of cost budgeting and cost case management conferences

• Assertiveness and determination to “get things done”

• Strong customer service skills

• Effective organisational and interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

• Team-oriented mindset and ability to work collaboratively

• Working knowledge of PROCLAIM or equivalent case management system
